Supporter Director
What is your role on the Trust Board?
I am currently elected Supporter Director representing Lincoln City Supporters’ Trust on the Football Club Board.
Where do you sit?
I move around a bit! So either in the Directors Box or at the back of the Echo stand. I can remember standing in the Railway end, later to become the Clanford end. I first started watching the Imps with my nose just above the wall at the South Park end!
Why did you join the Trust?
Players, Management, Directors move on but there is one constant at a football club and that is the fans. To me it is important that is remembered and so it follows that the fans should have a voice in part ownership and the running, development and decision making process of the Club. I am a firm believer in the Trust movement and believe we have the balance right at LCFC.
When was your first game at Sincil Bank?
Lincoln City v Cardiff ‘old’‘second division April 30 1958. We were again involved in a relegation battle and had to win the last 6 games of the season to have any chance of staying up. We had won 5 when Cardiff came for the sixth and last game of the season. We won 3-1 and I can still remember the Harbertson 25 yard screamer that night. The attendance was 18001 and I like to think I was the ‘1’!!
Which was the best Lincoln game you have seen?
LCFC 5 Doncaster 0 1975-76 season in front of 14000. This of course was the famous Graham Taylor season and by this game we were so confident we felt as though we were just turning up to see how many we would win by and the Imps didn’t disappoint that day. A wonderful game played by a wonderful team.
Who is your favourite ever Lincoln player?
Dave Smith, a very skilful player who played with his socks rolled down. In more recent times Gareth Ainsworth and Lee Frecklington – but Dave Smith is definitely my all time favourite.
Who is your favourite Lincoln manager?
Has to be Graham Taylor – when he was manager here he was so far ahead of the game in his thinking and methods. I actually see a lot of him in Chris Sutton.
What is your best Lincoln moment?
As said before- going to that game versus Donnie will always be in my memory, but it has to be the first time we went to the Millennium Stadium – I had tears in my eyes when we walked out!.
What is your worst Lincoln moment?
Unfortunately when you support the Imps there are quite a few!! But relegation to the Conference, the Bradford fire and losing to Southend in the second visit to Cardiff stick in the mind. I have to also say I can’t remember feeling so low for a long time as I did the night last season when we lost at home against Kettering in the cup replay.
Which is the best ground you have visited?
The new Wembley stadium is a great ground to watch games, but is still as difficult to get into/out of as the old one!! . The Millennium Stadium obviously, I also like the MK Dons ground. I remember standing on the Kop at Anfield in the mid sixties and watch George Best take on Liverpool on his own as it were in a 2-2 draw. – an amazing experience.
Which is your favourite League 2 ground?
Sincil Bank!!!
Who is the best player you have ever seen?
George Best and Bobby Moore.
Which other teams do you support?
Sorry!!!! There are no other teams apart from the Mighty Imps
What are your other sporting interests?
I have played League Cricket most of my life and still manage a game in my local Club’s league 2nd team. I have a real love of the game and have watched and played around the world. I guess my most memorable achievement in cricket was when I played for the official England Supporters team against a Barbados select X1 under floodlights in Barbados. My elder daughter plays County Cricket and my younger daughter plays for the local junior sides. I also play golf when time allows!
