There has been global interest in the latest Imps Trust fund raising campaign, Trust us to Cover it, which Lincoln City manager Chris Sutton is supporting by donating a signed Celtic shirt.
Sutton, a former Celtic hero, has donated the signed shirt in advance of the pre-season friendly when the Imps take on a Celtic X1 at Sincil Bank on Saturday 24 July. Parkhead fans will have fond memories of Chris signing for the Bhoys for £6m from Chelsea in July 2000 and scoring 86 goals in 194 games before leaving for Birmingham City on a ‘free’ in January 2006.
Rob Bradley is leading the ‘Trust us to cover it campaign’ and commented, “We are really grateful to the Celtic Trust for promoting this opportunity and one of their members who is working in Korea will be bidding for the Sutton shirt via telephone from the other side of the world. The Trust are organising this campaign to raise funds to contribute towards the purchase of covers that go across the full pitch to comply with a new Football league requirement and it is tremendous that Chris has donated a signed Celtic shirt.
Marie McCusker, Secretary of the Celtic Trust said, “I do hope you get lots of money for the shirt. I well remember the goals Chris Sutton scored in the famous 6-2 victory against the Rangers just after he joined us at Celtic. What a game that was! We had been years in the doldrums and Chris scored about 3 minutes into the first game of the season against the 'auld enemy'. With 13 minutes gone we were three up and what a feeling that was I can tell you. Chris also scored the last one that day as well as many other wonderful goals and we missed him when he left. Every success with your auction and in the coming season”.
The shirt will be sold in the Trust Suite at 2.30pm on Saturday 24 July.
